g19 | bristles on the south side it is...

Mariners 2 | White Sox 3
Holy Moly!  Another great start spoiled by the bullpen.  And some thought (maybe me included) that it was going to be the bullpen bailing out the starters not named Felix.  Three games, three one-run losses .... what happened to those guys who racked up all those one-run victories last season?

Kudos to Jason.  Another stellar start, made even more impressive by how he was able to overcome early struggles - he threw a ton of pitches and yielded a run in the first, but settled down and almost got through the 7th (you could tell he was peeved having to come out of the game).  Sean was able to get the last out of the 7th, but Brandon gave up homer to Konerko (his 3rd of the series) in the 8th.  And, despite the M's getting two on, with two out in the top of the 9th, that homer would prove to be the game winner.

Thank goodness they are gettin' the heck out of Chicago....
On to KC ... and Felix Day tomorrow!

oh  by the way - nice rehab start for Cliff down in Tacoma

Can't wait for Friday night at The Safe, when Mr. Lee makes his Mariner debut (I'll be there in the Terrace Club!)

  1. I was really hoping it'd be Felix and Grienke!

Byrnes almost made that play from a couple days ago. That would have been awesome!

I personally think a healthy Milton Bradley in the line up will make a bigger difference than having Cliff Lee back. The rotation has been great without him!

The M's desperately need a lefty in the pen, especially for the days Snell or Fister (and maybe Felix) pitches!

  2. Yeah - whodathunk it would be RRS we were worried about....
Doug and Jason have been great (Ian, well, he's always a project).

As for the lefty in the pen, a day or two ago I would have said that you may get your wish - as there was some speculation that Jason will go to the pen when Cliff joins the rotation (Snell is out of options, so not likely to be sent down) but after today's performance (3rd straight stellar start) seems it would be pretty hard to move him.

Then, what to do when Erik comes back - if Doug falters at all, it could be "Felix and the Lefties" :-)
