g91 | spunky and smoakin'

Mariners 6 | Angels 7
Yeah, it was a loss in a lost season but, that made it all the more impressive to see the guys show a little heart to battle back to make it a game and give a glimpse of good things to come in the future.

And how 'bout Mr. Smoak?!?
A single, a double and 2 RBI to go along with his second homer in as many games (and all from the right side, which is supposedly his weak side)!

MARK J. TERRILL / AP
Ryan, Ryan, Ryan...
I think it would be in his and the team's best interest for him to take a trip down I-5 for a few weeks...

pluses and minuses...
12 hits and 6 runs = good!
3 errors and 3 GDIP = bad

Oh, and welcome to the bigs, Mr. Seddon!
Nice debut for Chris.  He came into the game with runners on the corners and one out and got the M's out of the inning unscathed.  All told, he worked 1.2 innings posting ZERO runs, hits, walks

  1. Basically, if you don't have Smoak on your fantasy team(s) (and hopefully they don't count k's!) pick him up! People are saying that the Rangers are 0-2 with lee starting, but jesus... 9 innings each game?! Still, the M's won that deal unless they're total morons and bench Smoak or something stupid along those lines! I can not believe they dealt him!

If you see Rowland, run for the hills!! He's like the anti-Silva! Of course, Silva is finally coming back to Earth. Well, kinda.

    3 double plays?! wow.

  2. If I didn't already have 2 decent 1B, Tex and Cantu (who can also be used at 3B, if Beltre needs to be subbed for) and a good utility guy (Vladdy) I would definitely consider picking up Justin ;-)

In an odd way, it may be a blessing in disguise that the M's are struggling so much this season - at least for Justin and his development. They can play him everyday so he gains the experience he needs without fear of him putting too much pressure on himself. I heard an analyst (forget who) say that it can take up to 1500 AB's to REALLY see what a player is capable of ... he's got a ways to go before he's "crowned" or "kicked".

As for RRS... sad, sad, season. Most were counting on him to be a decent 3/4 - and he certainly pitched well enough in the 2nd half last season to warrant that confidence. Sure hope he can get if figured out one way or another...
