For Luke French’s first start as a Mariner – and his sixth major league start, period – Seattle’s offense put him ahead, 8-4, after five innings and 84 pitches.
In the top of the fourth, he had a long wait while the Mariners scored six runs. “I’ll wait all day for a six-run inning,” he said. “Truthfully, I’m just glad to get this first one out of the way. It felt like my first big-league start all over again.”

“He was nervous,” Wakamatsu said, “but he got out of a bases- loaded situation in the second inning. The main thing tonight was just getting him acclimated, making him feel
a part of the team.”
