g37 | poor Clifford...

Mariners 1 | Rays 2

Another absolutely STELLAR pitching performance by Mr. Lee
8IP - 5H - 2ER - 1BB - 10K
(vs. the best team in baseball!)

And yet, he loses argh!!

One crummy home stand (1-8) followed by a disheartening road trip (2-4)
The run differential on the road trip so far? 19-20 - I want the one-run winners back!

It just doesn't seem possible that the struggling bats can continue to struggle at the same pace for much longer.  What worries me is (and this is SO totally UN-rosy of me) when the bats do finally break out, and give the bullpen some breathing room, will the starting pitching then come back down to earth?

  1. we need more Bruce Drennan after Sunday!

I wouldn't worry about the starting pitching Lisa.

I mean smith will probably give up 3-4 in 6 innings later today and Felix will hopefully struggle on Tuesday, BUT I honestly think the starting pitching is the least of your concerns.

They have to take every break they can get with Saunders and get him out of the nine spot! If you see Wilson, Moore, Bard, Langerhans and even Griffey batting in front of him...complain to Wak yourself!

  2. um..... you were saying ... about the starting pitching?
as I type this it's 7-2 your guys in the top of the 5th and RRS didn't even get out of the 3rd before surrendering those 7 runs :-(

I certainly wasn't implying that SP was any problem (short of RRS) they have been splendid. Just that with the way things are going, if the bats ever come around, it would be just their luck that the pitching would go in the tank.

As for the batting order ... Shannon Drayer suggests putting Chone in the 9-spot ...

personally, I'm not a big batting order geek - other than the guys at the top getting more AB's, I don't really think it matters that much. See the ball, hit the ball. It's not that complicated :-)
