g30 | Erik and Justin and Jack, oh my!

Mariners 4 | Rangers 3

on the mound
After an extremely taxing start to the first, in which Erik threw 33 pitches and surrendered two walks, a steal of second, a fielder's choice and one run, he settled down and struck out the last two batters of the inning.  He then went on to retire the next 12 batters before a lead-off double in the 6th followed by a sacrifice and a single that drove in the Rangers second run.  From there he retired the last 5 batters he faced and ended with 103P - 7IP - 2H - 2ER - 2BB - 3K
Not too shabby.  Keep up the good work, Erik!

Things got a little crazy in the top of the 8th - with David Pauley on the mound...
something we are very UNaccustomed to.  He allowed a lead-off single and that runner was sacrificed to second and then stole third.  And then... squeeze!  argh!  But the M's would rally and Brandon would record his EIGHTH save in as many tries.

at the plate
The M's tied the score at 1 in the bottom of the 3rd on an RBI ground-rule double.  Then tied it at 2 in the bottom of the 6th on Ichiro's GDIP that score Ryan L from 3B.  They had to rally in the 8th to have a shot to win, and rally they did.  Adam led off with a single and Miggy laid down a bunt to move him along but got a bit of a bonus as he was SAFE! after the pitcher slid to field the bunt and lost his footing on the throw (love how Miggy always hustles).  Jack W ran for Adam and Justin came through with an infield single (of all things!) to score Jack W and tie the game at 3.  It was up to Jack C with runners at 1B and 3B and no outs and .... he singles in what turns out to be the winning run!

of base paths and leather works
In the field, Michael made a great running catch to rob Young of an XBH (likely would have scored 2 runs) and Brendan and Justin turned a nice DP.  Figgy booted a ball in the first but redeemed himself a bit by assisting in five (including a couple really nice snags) outs.

hmmm.... 7-3 in the last 10 games

  2. Indeed.

While, I don't think we'll be holding our collective navy and teal breath until the World Series, it is definitely fun watching some of the young guys blossom and some of the journeymen make unexpected contributions.

Here's to more "gelling" as the spring moves into summer. After 101 losses in 2 of 3 seasons, progress and development is the key...
