Just really hate these east coast start times...
I didn't see a pitch but heard sporadic innings and replays on the radio.
Mr. Fister was doing his usual Houdini act through the first four innings...
Doug got Cabrera to GDIP w/two on in the 1st, retired the side in the 2nd, kept a lead-off triple from scoring in the 3rd and a lead-off double from scoring in the 4th. He gave up all four runs in the 5th (a single, a triple, a single and a home run). Despite the early struggles, Doug was extremely efficient with his pitches and was able to hang in there for the complete game, needing only 87 pitches to do so and, he retired 9 of the last 10 batters he faced. He only gave up seven hits but, the problem was, 4 of them were for extra bases. And, as per usual, he gets nearly squat for run support
The defense did it's job as well...
making the routine plays and turning two twice
And then there was the offense...
Last time vs. Verlander, the bats did just enough (then went crazy on the relievers). This time, however, it was a different story - five total hits, all singles. Brendan and Adam each with two and Greg with one. The lone run came in the 5th when Greg led off with a single, stole 2B, took 3B on a fly ball and then scored as Jack Wilson struck out, on a wild pitch and was safe at 1B. Miggy had a particularly bad night 0 fer 4 w/4 K's (ouch!)
By the way, interesting lineup today - Jack Cust, Justin and Figgy all on the bench...
Wonder what will happen, if anything, with the elephant in the room, er lineup...
