G72 | Sunshine at The Safe!
M's 9 | Padres 3
Would have loved to have been there, but 1:40pm weekday games are a luxury to attend ;-(
Jarrod says, "Look, Ma - run support!" as he collects his first win in more than 2 months - wow.
Yes indeedy, the bats went a little crazy! 4 doubles and a home run (Ichiro's 29 lead-off homer)
A very nice way to end the homestand.

And now, the real test of their mettle begins as they travel to...
Dodgers
Yankees
Red Sox
Go Team Teal :-)

If the M's are going to keep this up, they HAVE TO get Ichiro home more.
ReplyDelete1st in hits, tied for 115th in runs scored! Wow!
Right now, they're hot, but they're going to need more help when the law of averages works it's way in the picture.
Another thing they absolutely have to do is get Msweeney in the line up more. I don't understand how he bats cleanup some days and not at all for 5 days out of the week. He can't be that fragile!
Washburn, another solid job.
On a side note, Tony Gwynns son is going to be awesome. He'll make an all-star team in a year or two.
Also, they might need another set-up man as I wouldn't trust Mark Lowe too much. Too many walks!
I think the original plan for Sweeney was to spell Russell at 1B vs. lefties, but Russell's having such a great season that Mike is basically platooning at DH w/Grif. Let's face it, both the veteran DH's are there to mentor and improve the clubhouse (which the have done - in spades) and any offense is gravy....
ReplyDeleteAs for the setup men, they alternate between Mark and Sean, both of which DO walk too many for my liking (but not as many as Aardsma!) yet, so far, it hasn't hurt ANY of them (as evidenced by their ERA).
Oh, and in my MASH update I should have mentioned Shawn Kelley, who will be making some rehab appearances soon with Tacoma.
Doesn't Tony Jr sound JUST like his dad?!? Would have been cool if they'd been a little closer in age and able to play on the same field like the Griffey's.
I haven't heard gwynn yet. I assume he did sound kind of like him.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think Lisa. Mariners buyers or sellers?!
re: buyers or sellers...
ReplyDeleteI think that question will be answered after the next 5 series...
But, no matter what...
I trust Jack Z to improve the club - whether it be for now or the future (ideally - it would be both ;-)
